HISTORY OF FEDERAL SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE ILESA.

Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC) Ilesa was originally established in 1988 as Federal Technical College (FTC) Ilesa. It was founded alongside other federal technical colleges across Nigeria, some of which, like Yaba Technical College, were later upgraded to Federal Science and Technical Colleges.
Although the institution was established in 1988, student admissions did not commence until 1991. The first set of students graduated in 1994. At its inception, the college started with only three departments and a small number of students. These departments were:

  1. Electrical Installation and Maintenance
  2. Plumbing and Pipe Fittings
  3. Blocklaying and Concreting

Expansion and Growth
In 1996, the Business Studies department was introduced, which significantly increased student enrollment. The institution’s first principal was Mr. Oladeinde G.T., followed by Mr. Aigbokhai O. However, it was under Mr. Adewunmi J.A. that student admissions began, leading many to consider him the first significant principal of the institution.
Over the years, several new courses were introduced to expand the academic offerings. In 2002/2003, the Basic School (Junior Secondary School – JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) were added to the system. This expansion led to the official change of name to Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC) Ilesa.
With this new structure, students completing the Junior Secondary School (JSS) were given the opportunity to choose between:
Craft courses, which provided hands-on vocational training, or
Academic subjects, which followed a more traditional educational path.

This system allowed craft students to advance in their careers beyond the level of ordinary technicians, offering them further academic and professional growth.

Current Student Population and Courses
From an initial student population of just 70 students, the college has grown significantly to over 1,400 students today. The number of craft courses has also expanded from the original three to twelve. The available courses include:

  1. Electrical Installation
  2. Blocklaying and Concreting
  3. Computer Craft
  4. Motor Vehicle Mechanics
  5. Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  6. Radio and TV Electronics
  7. Catering Craft
  8. Business Studies

  10. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

Caretaker chairman speech at handing over ceremony and reunion

Speech by the Alumni caretaker committee Chairman ( Federal Science and Technical college ilesa).

Good afternoon distinguished guests, colleagues, and fellow alumni.

I welcome you all to this maiden Reunion of Fstc Alumni and handing over to new Exco

Thank you for being here. Our association exists for one reason: to ensure that the bond we built within these walls continues to matter long after graduation. Over the years, we have grown into a network that provides professional support, mentorship, and a sense of continuity for each generation that comes after us.

Today is not just a gathering; it is a reminder of our responsibility. We have the experience, the resources, and the collective strength to shape opportunities for current students and younger alumni. If we expect this association to stay relevant, we must stay engaged—through participation, volunteer work, and consistent support.

Our priorities are straightforward which i hope the incoming executive can still run with:

1. Strengthen mentorship programs so students and new graduates have reliable guidance.

2. Improve communication and outreach, ensuring every alumnus feels connected.

3. Expand our scholarship and development initiatives to support talent regardless of background.

These goals are achievable only if each of us treats this association as something more than a name on a membership list. It requires action, not sentiment.

I appreciate everyone who has contributed time, ideas, and resources. Let’s keep pushing the association forward with the same determination that helped us succeed in our individual paths.

Thank you.
Together we make the difference.

Osonuwe Goddey.
